Thumb Industries, Inc. is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $10,000 Community Outreach and Support Technology grant through the Comcast Foundation. This grant will enhance the lives of the individuals we serve by increasing their knowledge and experience in the day to day use of computers and online navigation and career exploration. This initiative will help fill the gap that exists for many individuals that we serve as they compete in the competitive employment arena.
New technology will also provide an increased opportunity for community outreach regarding the services that Thumb Industries provides to our community, as well as enhance relevant trainings that Thumb Industries provides to its staff and consumers.
This grant from the Comcast Foundation is in recognition of Comcast's commitment to the communities where its customers and employees live and work. Since its founding in 1999, the Comcast Foundation has distributed more than $132 million in cash support of programs implemented in Comcast communities.
Fourth Annual Camel Race Fundraiser a Huge Success!!
Thumb Industries, Inc. hosted it's fourth-annual Camel Race fundraising event on Saturday, March 7, 2015. The event was once again held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bad Axe. Over 400 individuals attended the one of a kind event for our area.
Approximately $18,000 was raised to support programs provided to individuals with vocational disabilities.
The evening included a wonderful dinner, door prizes, raffles and ten heats of camel racing. Forty-two businesses and individuals sponsored camels that were raced down a custom track. Individuals were able to bet on each race using camel bucks. Huge, over-sized dice were rolled by local celebrity rollers, and each camel advanced one space each time their number was rolled.
This year's Fastest Camel Award went to Joe Stinson-Century 21/Hart Realty. Team One Credit Union received the most votes for their rendition of Oalf from Frozen to earn the honor of Best Dressed Camel. Several individuals also came dressed to the event in their best derby attire.
Thank you to everyone that sponsored a camel, donated door prizes or attended the event! Because of your support, it was a huge success!
