The goal of Employment Services is to develop meaningful work opportunities to individuals that improve their quality of life and provide greater independence and inclusion in their community. The program provides:
- Pre-Employment Assessment and Screening
- Job Development
- On the job training
- Follow along services to ensure success and satisfaction for the employer and employee.
Employment Services staff work with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, or a dual diagnosis. Some individuals want to work, but require support to achieve job readiness. Others possess the skills needed to enter the workforce, but need assistance with finding a job. Thumb Industries partners with Michigan Rehabilitation Services and local Community Mental Health agencies to assist individuals in obtaining their employment goals.
Individuals are assisted through the employment process by a trained Employment Training Specialist. Each individual participant’s skills and needs are assessed. Following the assessment period, each individual works with the Employment Training Specialist to research employment options and apply for work.
After the individual is hired, the Employment Training Specialist works with the employer to determine if on the job training is necessary. If training is required, the Employment Training Specialist provides training and supervision until the employer’s performance expectations are met. Once training has concluded, a Thumb Industries staff member will periodically check in with the employer/employee to ensure that the placement is successful.

What is the Work Opportunity Tax Credit?
